Best communicators in the South West shine at the South West Financial and Corporate Communications Awards

The fifth South West Financial and Corporate Communications Awards, organised by JBP and sponsored by Jurys Bristol Hotel , were held on 6th November 2008 at Jurys Bristol Hotel. The awards recognised best practice communications from twenty one organisations headquartered in the South West of England.

For the first time they not only recognised both quoted companies within the Main Market, AIM and PLUS Markets , but also fast growing private businesses with a turnover of £20m plus and not-for-profit organisations.

Bristol based Mitie scooped the Overall Award (Main Market) for Best Financial and Corporate Communications and two category awards - Best Website and Best Commitment to Environmental and Social Responsibility. They were also highly commended in four-award categories- Best Annual Report, Best Board Communications, Best Media Communications and Best Commitment to Reducing Carbon Footprint. Whilst Devizes - based Smallbone won the Overall Award (AIM) for Best Financial and Corporate Communications Awards and were highly commended in two categories - Best Media Communications and Best Annual Report.

South West construction company Midas and Poole - based charity RNLI won the overall awards in their categories. Midas scooped the Overall Award (Private companies) for Best Corporate Communications and won the Best Website category and were also highly commended in the Best Media Communications and Best Annual Report categories. Poole based RNLI won Best Not for Profit Communications Award for their annual report which inspired and excited judges.

The awards ceremony attracted over 170 of the region's top businesspeople and featured a keynote speech from renowned journalist Anthony Hilton, Financial Editor of the London Evening Standard.

Mark Roche-Garland from Jury’s Hotel, Bristol, the overall sponsors for the awards, said: “We are delighted in having been involved in and being host to one of the region’s top business events, in particular given the best-practices being showcased and rewarded at the awards ceremony by all the worthy winners. The awards were extremely successful and it was also wonderful to see so many South West based companies being recognised for their achievements.”
