Strategic objectives

Raise awareness of the opportunity, through increased research funding, to tackle the growing issue of eye disease in the UK and its impact on the economy, healthcare and society due to an ageing population and unhealthy lifestyles.

Areas of support

  • Creation of a branded campaign inSIGHTSinto a healthy future, accompanied by a manifesto setting out National Eye Research Centre’s call for more research funding
  • Engaging with a number of political and charity stakeholders to build up a coalition of support for the charity’s call to action
  • Meeting with the All Party Parliamentary Group for Eye Health and Visual Impairment (a cross-party group of interested MPs)
  • Development of strategic communications partnerships with the private sector
  • Organised an official launch of the campaign at the House of Commons attended by the charity’s patron HRH Prince Michael of Kent


  • Gained the support of RNIB, Macular Society, Diabetes UK and JDRF (a Type 1 diabetes charity)
  • Launch attended by parliamentarians, influencers, corporates, eye health campaigners and other interested parties
  • Major national coverage, including BBC Breakfast News, Channel 5 News and Radio 4 programme
  • The Paralympian, Jade Etherington was secured as the charity’s ambassador
  • Charity named as beneficiary of Radio 4’s charity appeal raising tens of thousands of pounds
