Tessa Jowell fast becoming Labour’s mayoral frontrunner
12 June 2015, Blog
As it stands, Tessa Jowell has been nominated by 63 local London Labour parties, giving her an early lead in the race to become London Mayor. Compare this to the 42 nominations received by Sadiq Khan and the 15 nominations received by David Lammy, and Jowell is already looking to be in a position of considerable strength.
Each of the London Constituency Labour Parties can nominate 2 candidates, one of whom must be a woman. In order to reach the shortlist, a candidate must receive at least 5 nominations. These nominees will then be subject to a vote over the summer, with the successful candidate being announced at September’s Labour Conference.
