Last week, Boris Johnson gave his seal of approval to Tottenham Hotspur’s plans for a new stadium next to the current grounds at White Hart Lane. The plans were backed by Haringey Council in December. The new stadium will hold 61,000 – a huge increase on the current stadium’s capacity of 36,000.
When answering questions about the long delay between getting planning approval at council level, and submitting plans for the Mayor’s approval, the football club said they were keen to get every detail correct before submission.
Tottenham FC has been at White Hart Lane for 117 years. The new plans include a retractable pitch which will allow the club to host NFL matches. The stadium plans are “considered central to the ongoing regeneration of Tottenham, with City Hall already investing £28m in the surrounding area.”
