Nick O’Hara is a former civil servant with intimate knowledge of Westminster and Whitehall, who has advised cabinet ministers and permanent secretaries. He has specialised in designing and implementing external communications strategies, advising senior executives on political, policy and communications issues. Alongside UK and EU public policy he has a thorough knowledge of the Scottish political environment and institutions, primarily from having engaged extensively in the independence referendum.
Nick started out as a Policy Adviser at the CBI before joining a construction trade association. From there he joined The Pensions Regulator where he managed relationships with DWP, HM Treasury and the former FSA, alongside leading all parliamentary relations and pensions industry stakeholder engagement. He moved on to the Office of Rail Regulation as Head of Corporate and Industry Relations and built an external affairs function from scratch. His subsequent roles have included heading up public affairs for the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and interim stints as Head of Government and Political Relations at Heathrow Airport and managing public affairs for the London Assembly at City Hall.
Nick joined JBP as Director of Public Affairs in June 2021. He brings a track record of shaping policy development and delivering impactful stakeholder engagement in the public policy realm, as evidenced by successful parliamentary select committee hearings and reports, positive stakeholder survey feedback, and favourable public comment from prominent stakeholders. Building on the success of the JBP public affairs team, Nick will continue to develop our public affairs strategies and high-level engagement with senior influencers in Whitehall, Westminster and across the devolved administrations. He will lead on account research and stakeholder mapping.
