Strategic objectives

Take a leadership role in the development of new care models to meet future challenges of delivering quality end of life care in the face of a growing elderly population, increased competition for funding and a need for better integration of existing healthcare services.

Areas of support

The 'Fit for Future' review engaged a broad spectrum of interested parties, from healthcare experts and patient representatives, through to community carers and commissioned services. Using a range of platforms, from panel meetings to focus groups and a dedicated and interactive Fit for the Future website, the findings will form the basis of recommendations for future care models that can be replicated around the country. The review was also widely publicised through traditional media and engaging directly via e-newsletters.

Outcomes

  • The first formal review stage has been completed and an interim report published. Six areas have been identified as key to efficient future care delivery in both hospices and the community
  • Significant positive local and regional media coverage
